DAVID Cameron will issue a direct rallying call to voters tonight by hosting a radio-style phone-in focusing on the upcoming European and local elections.
The Prime Minister [will be] talking you through our campaign, as well as answering questions about the elections."
The questions will be vetted before being put to Mr Cameron, who will spend around 30 minutes taking part in the 'conference call'.
An email from Tory chairman Grant Shapps, seen by Express Online, says the call will see "the Prime Minister talking you through our campaign, as well as answering questions about the elections."
The Tories have organised a 'conference call' such as this before, but it is the first time it has gone beyond campaign organisers to target ordinary members and voters.
The call, which is set to begin at 6.45pm this evening, has been described as "a smart campaigning import from the US" by the editor of politicalbetting.com Mike Smithson.
A Sunday Times YouGov poll published yesterday placed the Tories on 19 per cent, behind Ukip - 31 per cent - and Labour on 28 per cent.
Ukip leader Nigel Farage has vowed to cause an "earthquake" in British politics by winning the vote.
