THE dying wish of a teenager with terminal cancer was granted today after he sent a "final thumbs up" from his hospital bed.
Stephen created himself the list last year, which included raising £10,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT).
But the hero 19-year-old smashed his original fundraising goal and so he went on to raise the target to £1million.
Celebrities including Clare Balding, Piers Morgan, Phillip Schofield and comedians Jason Manford, Alan Davies and Jimmy Carr have shared their support for Stephen's cause on Twitter, urging followers to help him in his last request.
Stephen has been working on his bucket list since January last year and successfully ticked off 35 of his 46 goals – including hugging an elephant, crowd-surfing in a rubber dinghy, meeting comedian Jimmy Carr and riding a Segway.
The brave teenager, from Burntwood, Staffordshire, even went to Number 10 Downing Street to deliver a speech about cancer.
He has also appeared as an extra in BBC daytime drama Doctors and played the drums in front of a crowd at 90,000 at Wembley for last year's Champions League final.
To tick off another wish from the bucket list, Stephen even had a pair of scissors tattooed on his body along his operational scars.
It's a shame the end has come so suddenly- there's so many people I haven't got round to properly thank or say goodbye to
Stephen posted a picture of himself in hospital surrounded by breathing tubes, along with a heart-wrenching message which read: "It's a final thumbs up from me! I've done well to blag things as well as I have up till now, but unfortunately I think this is just one hurdle too far.
"It's a shame the end has come so suddenly- there's so many people I haven't got round to properly thank or say goodbye to. Apologies for that.
"I will continue fighting for as long as I can, and whatever happens next I want you all to know I am currently in a good place mentally and at ease with the situation.
"That's it from me. But life has been good. Very good."
He also went on to say a heartfelt thank you to all who helped and supported him.
He wrote: "Thank you to my mum and the rest of my family for everything. Thank you to my friends for being amazing. Thank you to my medical team for the hard work and effort they've continually they've put towards me.
"And thank you everyone else for sharing this wonderful journey with me.
"I love you all."
He was told that his illness was incurable, with the prognosis giving him a few years at best.
But the irrepressible Stephen would not let the news keep him down and drew up a bucket list of things he wanted to do before he died.
He also began going into schools to deliver motivational speeches talks about his illness.
The unstoppable teenager was awarded a vInspired award for his volunteering work, which not only included fundraising for the Teenage Cancer Trust, but also maths tutoring, which he began at just 13.
Although Stephen often suffered from particularly unpleasant side effects from his treatment, his messages were always positive.
On Monday, when he posted his last update on Facebook, he thanked his fans for their support.
He said: "Generally I am feeling very weak and the slightest bit of movement is leaving me short of breath.
"I am also finding it tiring to speak and even typing this message is hard work.
"I am comfortable enough though, and all your messages and support have helped hugely in this- I have not had chance to read them all and will not get to reply to them all, but trust me when I say they are greatly appreciated.
"I don't really want to die, but hopefully my journey has influenced a lot of people for the better and taught people not to take life for granted.
"I think it has, and will hopefully continue to do so in the future, so in a situation that seems so unfair and without explanation, at least there has certainly been some purpose for me in my short time alive, which certainly helps ease the pain."
He continued to tweet last night, including messages such as "The world truly is a wonderful place", "Tonight's show of love and support epitomises how great people can be" and "Hanging in here as best I can :)".
