Inspirational Stephen, who originally set out to raise £10,000, has broken JustGiving records and raised £2.83million for the Teenage Cancer Trust after his story captured the hearts of the nation.
Celebrities are urging people to dig deep and break the £5million mark after a surge in support from more than 117,000 donors.
Organiser, the comedian Jason Manford who first met the youngster two years ago, said: “I can’t believe it. It’s an incredible sum.
“I’d love to think that Stephen’s fundraising will reach £5million. He has inspired people all over the world. He is amazing. Even in his bed there with his tubes and masks with nurses coming in every 20 minutes to give him medicine, he was still talking about doing a sky dive and hoping to get in the Guinness Book of Records and different things on his bucket list.
“He was talking about putting the fun into fundraising.
“He said, ‘Don’t tug on people’s heart strings and make people feel guilty – because if they feel guilty they will give a fiver, if they are having fun they will give 20 quid’.
“We chatted for a couple of hours and he is very savvy. There is something very special about him.”
The 19-year-old, from Burntwood, Staffordshire, was diagnosed with incurable cancer three days before his 16th birthday. As a result, he started a “bucket list”, including raising £10,000.
His supporters include actor Simon Pegg and Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch, who have posed for pictures on Twitter encouraging people to donate.
Music mogul Simon Cowell has also pledged to make a “significant donation” calling Stephen an “inspiration”.
Yesterday Stephen said on Facebook: “This week has been pretty unbelievable and I can barely fully get my head round everything that has gone on.”
