CARLO ANCELOTTI has been backed to make a sensational return to England with the ex-Chelsea boss tipped by Clive Allen to be the next Tottenham manager.
Though Tim Sherwood penned an 18-month contract after succeeding Andre Villas-Boas, the Spurs board are keen to have a more experienced hand guiding the team.
This has led in recent weeks with a number of top names including Louis van Gaal being touted for the hottest.
And Allen believes there could be a shock managerial signing in the summer.
"If I was a betting man I'd have my money on Carlo Ancelotti," Allen told talkSPORT.
"There won't be just the one option, because if was Van Gaal was on their list, that's gone now, his move to Man United looks to be done and he's been very clever with his recent comments.

"I think they'd look at someone like Pochettino too."
Allen has also questioned whether a change in tack on the managerial front will necessarily see Spurs challenge for the Champions League next season.
He added: "Under the pressure Tim [Sherwood] has been under since taking over, yes he, Les [Ferdinand] and Chris [Ramsey] have done well, but the bottom-line was to get the side into the top four or the club would change it up again.
"They wanted to have a real go at the end of last season, they changed it and brought AVB in, and now they've changed it again.
"I find it difficult to accept that another appointment will change it so dramatically that they will be challenging for the top four straight away."
