“For a long time there I was a bit of a laughing stock,” she says.
“And while everybody was busy laughing, what was I doing? I was laying the foundation to what I have in place now.”
The former Spice Girl, whose range is sold worldwide, says she didn’t let her critics get to her.

“There were no expectations. I didn’t expect it to be any other way. I didn’t go into this to prove anything to anybody other than myself.”
The designer, who is married to former England footballer David Beckham, is adamant that her brand is far more important to her than celebrity.
“I like to keep my head down, work hard, focus on what I’m doing businesswise,” she adds.
“I like to try to control how much I’m seen. I don’t want to go out and be photographed every day, you know.”
