Yet it seems the 32-year-old royal, married to former England rugby player Mike Tindall, could not wait to take up the reins again. She was back in the saddle at the Symm International Horse Trials near Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire.
Zara, who has four horses in the three-day eventing trials, emerged from a horsebox carrying little Mia.
The Queen’s fourth great-grandchild wore pink slippers, a blue jacket and white woolly hat with ears as she took in the equestrian sights.
Mia will have to get used to the world of horses. Her mother has her sights set on an Olympic gold in Rio in two years’ time.
