It was only last month that it was said that the pretty brunette was going to be Corrie's next star beauty following the departure of Michelle Keegan, however an inside source has claimed the star has become "too big for her boots" and will be leaving sooner than expected.
Speaking to the Sunday Mirror, the actress said: "I have had an amazing four years on Coronation Street; I have had some fantastic storylines and worked with some wonderful actors.
However, show boss Stuart Blackburn confirmed that while her character will be written out of the series, she won't be killed off, leaving her with the opportunity to return in the future.
He said: "Katy will not be killed off and the door will be left open for a possible return. We wish Georgia every success with her future career."
The star took to her Twitter account earlier today to thank fans for their messages of support following the announcement.
She wrote: "Thankyou for all your lovely messages regarding me leaving coronation street! Obviously it will be a very emotional time for me! But...
She later added: "Also! It wont be till the end of the year! So lots more Katy to come im sure! X."
This year has seen a plethora of stars leave the soap, including Michelle Collins, Sue Johnston, Chris Gascoyne, Charlie Condou and Phillip Lowrie.
