Moyes accused his players of lacking attacking penetration and "rank rotten" defending after they suffered their first League double defeat by Everton in 44 years.
First-half goals from Leighton Baines and Kevin Mirrallas kept Everton hot on th heels of Arsenal for the fourth Champions League place and prompted their fans to taunt beleagured Moyes on his return to Goodison Park with chants of "you're getting sacked in the morning".
He refused to answer the question whether the Old Trafford board still back him but, when asked how he convinces fans that things will improve, he said: "I think everybody knows that we are on track to make changes and do some different things.
"We are rebuilding, we have things we want to do. Today there were things that were not that good but there were things that were good. We need to try and get rid of the bad things and do better with the things we should have done.
"The supporters have been incredibly behind the team and supported the team throughout. They realise it has been a difficult season. The supporters have supported the team. They understand it has not been good, I recognise it has not been good, it needs to be better."

If David Moyes thinks United played well . . . I'd worry for United

United's lack of a response after going 2-0 down clearly angered Moyes. He said: "I thought we played really well in the first half but we lacked the killer ball. I agree there isn't much point having a lot of posssession if you don't create chances. And we didn't do that well enough. I thought the two goals we conceded were rank, rotten."
Moyes came under fire from former United player David May who suggested on the club's own TV station that he "looked out of his depth".
And Sky pundit Jamie Carragher said: "If David Moyes thinks United played well . . . I'd worry for United."
Moyes faces another headache amid reports that England striker Danny Welbeck wants to leave. He said: "Danny is really important to me and I really value him. There have been lots of stories. I can only tell you Danny is really important to me and really important to this club."

After Everton closed the gap to one point behind fourth-placed Arsenal, manager Roberto Martinez said: "It was a very satisfying performance, especially being the third game in eight days, I thought it would be really demanding.
"Once we get 2-0 up it was a very risky moment, you expect United to throw everything at you and to keep a clean sheet, But I was extremely proud, Tim Howard made one world-class save but that was in the 86th minute.
"That was the type of performance I want - full of energy, dynamic, the counter attack, I thought we looked electrifying."
