MARILYN Monroe’s scarlet pout has been voted the most iconic beauty trend of all time.

The Hollywood sex symbol’s siren-red lips, made famous in the 1955 film The Seven Year Itch, were copied by Robert Palmer’s backing singers in the Eighties video Addicted To Love.
And they are still a favourite today, as demonstrated by singer Rita Ora.
Dark, smoky eye make-up, loved by Cheryl Cole and Kate Moss, came second while false lashes, which first gained popularity in the Sixties and are still popular with The Only Way Is Essex reality stars, were third.
The bronzing effect of fake tan, mastered by Victoria Beckham, was fourth. Completing the top five iconic looks was heavy eyeliner, popularised by Twiggy in the Sixties.
The study of 2,000 women, carried out by Superdrug, also placed beauty spots and Barbie-pink lips on the list.

The beauty retailer’s buying director, Simon Comins, said: “It’s fascinating that we return time and time again to the classic beauty looks.
“This research shows us fabulous red lips remain one of women’s favourite and most dramatic beauty looks.”
Also in the top 10 were cat-like eye make-up often sported by ex-Coronation Street actress Helen Flanagan, followed by the nude lipstick regularly worn by US reality star Kim Kardashian – who also favours heavy contouring, the careful blending of bronzer and highlighter.
More dubious trends in the poll were lip piercings, blue eye shadow and the Nineties trend of wearing a dark lip liner with a lighter lipstick.
Mr Comins added: “The fact that some trends have come and gone, then come back again shows beauty trends are as cyclical as fashion, and they have all been sported by the famous faces of the day.”
