He was discovered after the driver heard noises coming from under the vehicle and stopped to check.
Police found the youngster did not have any travel documents on him and was arrested on suspicion of illegal entry into the UK.
Eye witness Mary Hawksworth, 48, from Redbridge, East London, was returning home from shopping when she saw the driver checking the vehicle.
She said: "They knew there was someone under there. I saw them get off, look under the coach then run inside the police station.
"Then one of them flagged down a passing police car about to go into the station and they got out. There were about six or seven officers all looking under the coach.
"I heard them say: 'Get out' and I thought: 'What?' and I saw a man crawl out from under the coach."
Dan's Luxury Travels, who own the bus, confirmed they found a "young stowaway" hiding under the vehicle.
A spokesman said: "The driver did what he had to do. He did his legal checks for the vehicle.
"We have never had an incident like this before."
A Home Office spokesman said that police alerted immigration enforcement officials were contacted by Metropolitan Police after a suspected illegal immigrant was after the young man was detained at Ilford police station.
The spokesman said if the youth is found to have no permission to remain he will face removal from the country.
In the 2012-13 financial year, 11,000 tried to get into Britain illegally but were prevented from doing so.
