Wiley, real name Richard Kylea Cowie, used his Twitter feed to make the allegation at 1pm today, as rumours circulated that heavy rock band Metallica were set to be announced as this year's Saturday headliners at Glastonbury Festival.

The 35-year-old rapper, originally from Bow in east London, tweeted "Who wants to bet me that the Glastonbury boss has the same attitude as Donald sterling ...Defo has" to his 387,000 followers.

He then accused another user of "siding with the racists lot" after she told him to "educate yourself. You are offensive".

Angry Twitter users attacked Wiley for his claim with comments containing such strong language they are not fit for publication.

Mr Eavis is one of the music world's most respected and highly regarded figures, and in 2008 defied conventional rock fans by giving a headline slot to New York rapper Jay-Z.

In 2010 soul legend Stevie Wonder headlined, and the following year Beyonce topped the bill.

American basketball owner Donald Sterling has been banned from the NBA for life after the 80-year-old was recorded berating his girlfriend for publishing a picture on Instagram of herself with basketball legend Magic Johnson.

During the nine-minute recording allegedly between Mr Sterling and V Stiviano, who herself is black and Mexican, he is said to ask: "Why are you taking pictures with minorities? Why?"

She replies by saying: "People call you and tell you that I have black people on my Instagram, and it bothers you?"

He then tells her not to bring black people to the games of LA Clippers - the club he has owned since 1981.

Express.co.uk has attempted to contact both parties who so far have not made any official comment.
