RIO FERDINAND has backed newly-appointed Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal to lead the club to glory.

Van Gaal will officially take charge of the club after his World Cup bid with the Netherlands this summer.
The Dutchman has signed a three-year deal, with Red Devils legend Ryan Giggs named as his assistant manager.
And Ferdinand - who is out of contract at Old Trafford - backs the 62-year-old tactician to take United back to the top of the Premier League.

He tweeted: "Good luck to Louis Van Gaal as the new manager of @ManUtd also to Giggsy as no.2.
"Hope they get #mufc back to the top where we belong."
Van Gaal will takeover from David Moyes, who was sacked for guiding the club to just seventh in the league.
