Townsend was ruled out of the World Cup after damaging ligaments in a game against Stoke at the end of May.
The 22-year-old needed surgery and Spurs announced that he could be sidelined for up to 10 weeks.
But Townsend is now optimistic that he will be raring to go by the time pre-season training kicks off in early July after starting work on a range of state-of-the-art low-impact training exercises.
He said: "Rehab has begun! My days consists of proprioception, leg weights, bike sessions, swimming and under water treadmill! #readyforpreseason"

At the time of the injury, Tim Sherwood said: "It's a real shame for Andros. He's obviously devastated.
"He's had the operation and it's gone well. He's just got to look forward now, that's gone.
"He's going to have plenty more World Cups, he just needs to make sure he gets back fit and playing well for his club to get the opportunity to play for England again."
But Townsend will now look to impress a new manager - likely to be Mauricio Pochettino - in preseason after Sherwood was let go by Spurs at the end of the campaign.
