The schoolboy from Essex had wowed judges and the audience after a dazzling performance of Gnarls Barkley's number one hit Crazy.
He had impressed earlier in the Britain's Got Talent auditions with a rendition of Nina Simone's timeless track Feeling Good.
An overcome James told Ant and Dec he was delighted to reach the final as he was cheered on by the audience and his fellow performers.

The panel voted three to one for the performers who described themselves as portraying a sinister and dark side of dance.
The decision with who went through to the final laid with Simon Cowell after the panel had voted two to one for The Addict Initiative.
He said: "You know Jodi you did great. I do admire what you did tonight, you did great.
"I thought [The Addict Initiative] were incredible. Whatever I say is going to make me unpopular.
"But the act I am putting through is The Addict Initiative."
But he praised the way she responded and all the judges said Jodi, who is 85 per cent deaf in one ear, will have a big career on the West End.
After being knocked out of BGT Jodi told the judges: "Thank you so much for the amazing comments."
The Addict Initiative, who Simon had described as the best dance group since previous winners Diversity, were overjoyed to reach the final.
They said: "We're over the moon. Amazing. Just speechless."
The other acts who went home tonight were singer Ed Drewett, daredevil bikers the Bolddog FMX Team, girlband SweetChix, Kony Puppets, Mini Moves and comic Ricky K.
James and The Addict Initiative will join singing group Collabro and magician Darcy Oake who yesterday were the first acts through to the final.
