Intergroom, an event held yearly in New Jersey, USA, hosts 2,000 of the world's best pet groomers from over 23 different countries.

At the end of the three-day show, participants could show their more adventurous side in the creative grooming category.

The people involved have to be a little eccentric but in the nicest possible way

Professional photographer Paul Nathan, 43, who was at the event taking photos for his upcoming book, Groomed, said: "There is just so much detail and work involved as not one hair is out of place."

The owners spent weeks carefully spraying and clipping their cat's fur to perfect their designs.

Among the entries were cats designed to look like a lion, a cheetah (with a picture of the Cheetos mascot Chester Cheetah) and Scooby Doo.

The winner was Martini, a Siamese cat covered in twisting vines and flowers.

"I think the people involved have to be a little eccentric but in the nicest possible way," Mr Nathan added.

"All of the dyes are non-toxic and the cats are obviously well looked after."
