BRITAIN is set for a washout Easter with persistent rain expected across the entire country, forecasters warned today.

Temperatures are set to plummet as the UK falls under a band of low pressure.
And the weather system, which is caused by cold air coming in from the Arctic and mixing with warmer air, looks set to dampen the Bank Holiday weekend for the whole of the UK.
Leon Brown, a forecaster at the Weather Channel, said that up to 20mm of rain could be expected in the west of the country, which is set to be the worst affected.
Mr Brown said that Britain may have escaped an Arctic plunge that was forecast to bring snow to the Scottish mountains over the weekend - but said that the country looked set to be deluged with rain instead.
He said: "Next week looks like being quite warm and dry across the country up until Thursday, particularly in the south.
"But from Friday onwards it's looking very unsettled. An Arctic plunge that was heading for the country looks to have been held back a little longer and may slip down the west of the country.
"However, it is going to be a lot wetter over the whole of the country, particularly on Sunday and Monday.
"It looks as though all areas are going to see frequent or persistent showers.

"We will also see temperatures fall from about 20 degrees in the south on Thursday and Friday, to around ten degrees over the weekend.
"This unsettled weather is caused by colder air from the Arctic moving south and mixing with milder air, forming a band of low pressure which will be sitting over us."
He said that the worst affected area was likely to be the west of the country on Sunday, when 10-20mm of rain is expected to fall.
Alister McHardy of the Met Office also warned that the mild conditions that we have been experiencing recently look set to end, and said that windy conditions could make it feel even colder as the mercury falls.
He said: "From Good Friday we will see some wind and rain with temperatures falling.
"On Saturday a band of rain will be coming across the country from the south west, and on Sunday more areas will see showers and longer spells of rain, and it will be quite windy as well, which will make conditions feel quite chilly.
"We could be seeing rain in more or less any part of the country over the weekend, with temperatures dropping to around ten degrees.
"The weather is looking much more unsettled generally over the next two weeks, with lots of showers and colder spells."
But he said that runners in tomorrow's London Marathon could expect near perfect conditions.
Mr McHardy said: "It looks like there will be a bright start to the day with sunny spells. It will be mainly dry with some risk of light showers, and there will be a bit of a breeze coming in from the north west.
"We're looking at temperatures around 15 or 16 degrees, so it won't be too hot for the runners."
