Moyes had another painful day at the office as he saw United slump to a 2-0 defeat - their 11th league loss of the season.
The Scot was an overwhelming success during his 11-year stint in charge of the Toffees but riled the fans after his botched attempt to try and bring Leighton Baines to Old Trafford in the summer.
One fan even went to the effort of dressing up as the Grim Reaper and poked fun at Moyes.
But Howard contends Everton fans should not forget what Moyes achieved at Goodison Park.
"We have brilliant fans, but that was unfair on him," Howard said.
"He was the second coming, the messiah 12 months ago, and I don't think as Evertonians we should ever forget that."
Though Moyes has struggled to impose himself at Old Trafford, Howard thinks he's still a 'brilliant' manager.
"I love David Moyes. I think he is a brilliant manager," Howard continued.
"He was (a brilliant manager) here for us and I will be forever grateful to him.
"Football is a funny game. It has highs and lows. You take the good with the bad and you keep rolling."
