COMEDIAN Griff Rhys Jones has told a university he does not want to be its chancellor after a blooper worthy of his TV show It’ll Be Alright On The Night.

Griff, 60, had been thrilled when the role was offered to him by Cardiff University.
He posed happily in ceremonial robes and mortar board – only to be told an hour before his official appointment that academics had changed their minds.
Now Griff says he wants no more to do with it.
He said: “I can’t say I’m offering my resignation – I haven’t yet been appointed – but I do not want to be further considered.”

In a letter to vice chancellor Professor Colin Riordan, he wrote: “I was honoured to be chosen...
“But at the moment I feel that any further association would only be the subject of dispute.
“That would not be good for the council or the court or the university.
“If I can be of further service, do not hesitate to get in touch.”
Senior members of the university’s 200-strong ruling “court” said they felt “betrayed” by the affair.
They baulked at the idea of a celebrity chancellor and claimed Griff was chosen because he is seen as “a good bloke”.
A university spokesman said it was “very sorry for creating the circumstances” that led him to step aside.
Current chancellor Sir Martin Evans could be given a second term from May.
