Before the announcement, fans were given a hint that the original cast members would feature in the JJ Abrams film, which begins shooting in a few weeks at Pinewood studios.
Ford, Fisher and Hamil have all been spotted out and about in the capital recently.
Indiana Jones actor Ford was pictured leaving Hakkasan restaurant last Thursday, while Hamill posed for a Twitter picture with fellow actor Peter Serafinowicz.
Serafinowicz, who starred in The Phantom Menace, captioned the photo with: "Met up with @HamillHimself in London today. I wonder why he's here," - teasing fans about Hamill's reasons for being in the UK.

She also teased fans on Twitter regarding her whereabouts and wrote: "So my do dog Gary has been spotted in London, but apparently without me. Who has he been seeing? Let me know if you have any clues."
