The retired ambulance worker helped the singer's mother, now 45, just 20 miles away from the hospital where the One Direction singer was later born.
Ms Cox spotted Mr Styles' name tag on his uniform and said: "You're quite nice, if it's a boy I'm going to call him Harry".
Dad-of-two Mr Styles said he met the pop star's mum while working at the NEC shortly before she gave birth.

The What Makes You Beautiful singer was born at Alexandra Hospital, Redditch, in February 1994.
His parents Ms Cox and father Des were living in the small town of Evesham just outside of Birmingham at the time of the chance meeting.
The singer's parents later moved to Cheshire before divorcing when Harry was aged seven.
The singer's 72-year-old namesake, from Newport in South Wales, said his family tease him over his link to the One Direction singer.
The former railway safety manager's daughter Helen, 42, bought him a hoodie with "Keep Calm Love Harry Styles" written on it.
Mr Styles, who spent 27 years with St John Ambulance, said: "My daughter put up a picture of me on Facebook saying we had the same name - but sadly I had no replies from any young ladies.
"But I have to admit I don't think I'd know the other Harry Styles if he walked past me in the street."
