We meet up with the pretty 20-year-old just nine hours after she's landed in London from New York.
If she’s jet lagged, she’s not showing it. She’s bright, bubbly and seems a bit bemused by the attention the song #Selfie is getting.
“It is insane. I didn’t expect this to transfer the way it has in a million years!” she told DailyExpress.co.uk in an exclusive interview. I’m basically tone deaf. But it's awesome. I never thought my voice would be on the radio."
Alexis was asked to sing on the track by her friends and producers, The Chainsmokers, aka DJs Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall, as they thought her "obnoxious voice” was perfect.
If you haven't heard the song or seen the video yet, it's about two self-obsessed girls in a nightclub toilet.
The moan about boys, slag off girls and reapplying their make-up - all before taking that important selfie.

“I’m in school (university) and I have a lot going on. It’s still my voice. It’s fun and it doesn’t bother me.
“They wanted some very clubby looking girls so it just fit the whole premise of the video to what they wanted to portray. It turned out really great.”
Alexis calls herself a “nobody” and, despite all the recent attention, has no future plans or ambitions to be famous.
“I’m just a normal person who happens to be on this song that became famous. I’m not an actress or a vocalist or anything.
“They just said, ‘Do you mind going to London to talk about the song?’ I’m on spring break right now. I have no priorities. When else would I get to do this? It’s cool.”
“It’s our culture. We’ve become a very self-obsessed generation that we’ve all been indulging in," she says.
“When you get a 'like' on your selfie, that’s like getting a compliment, even though it’s just a click of a button. I think people become obsessed with getting these likes for self esteem.
“I hate to admit it but everyone has been that girl. It just really relates to everyone, that’s why it’s become such a success.”
In real life, Alexis doesn’t seem like that girl.
She still lives in Manhattan, New York, where she grew up and is just about to finish the third year of her four year finance course.
“I’m at business school and I intern as a business analyst. It’s the polar opposite to singing about selfies.
“My boss found out it was me and now says every morning, ‘Alexis, can you do this? But first, let me take a selfie.’ It’s like, OK, great. It follows me everywhere.”
“Someone said to me, ‘I thought it was you but I didn’t want to say anything because I didn’t want to offend you.’
“Other people say it sounds nothing like me. It made me conscious of my voice for a bit. But now I don’t care. And I’m kind of stuck with it.”
And she admits she’s attracted some nasty comments on Twitter.
“There’s been a lot of negative tweets. I made the mistake of looking at it. It’s funny. People are very creative: ‘This girl sounds like she’s got a cheeseburger stuck in her throat, she sounds like a man, she must weigh 400 pounds.’
“Saying that if I heard my voice on the radio all the time too, I’d get annoyed eventually.”
