MANCHESTER UNITED are set to seal a £24million deal to make Atletico Madrid defender Miranda their first signing of the summer.

According to sources in Spain, the transfer for the Brazilian is all but finalised, with United agreeing to meet the 29-year-old's buy-out clause. 
New United boss Louis Van Gaal has been linked with a host of defenders already this summer, but it now seems that the sought-after Brazilian international was the Dutchman's top priority - and he could put pen to paper in the next few days.

Reports in Spanish sports paper AS claim Miranda has been spotted in Manchester in recent weeks, checking out the area and looking for schools.
The 6ft 1in defender has been at the heart of both Atletico Madrid's incredible achievements this season.

He made 32 appearances to help Diego Simeone's side land a first La Liga title since 1996, and featured 13 times on route to a historic Champions League final.
Miranda will need to hit the ground running if he is to replace United's stalwart pair of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.
