LOUIS VAN GAAL has dropped his clearest hint that he will name Robin van Persie as skipper once he formally takes over at Manchester United.
Wayne Rooney had been a candidate to get the skipper's armband, but Van Gaal has a close relationship with his countryman Van Persie.
The United striker hit home a superb free-kick in Holland's 1-1 World Cup warm-up draw with Ecuador.
And Van Gaal has hailed van Persie's leadership qualities ahead of his impending United appointment, which could be announced today.
