The Dutchman has been kept out of the side since picking up a knee injury against Olympiakos in the Champions League in March.
Van Persie stepped up his fitness regime when he returned to training last week.
"We’ll just have to wait and see how he goes this week. He came back last Friday and he trained well," Giggs said earlier this week.

"He just needs to work on his fitness now so, yeah, he looked great."
Though he was originally thought to be out for the rest of the season, Van Persie according to reports, could be fit enough to make the bench against the Black Cats.
It could prove to be a timely boost for United who are looking to build on last weekend's 4-0 win over Norwich.
