Rooney may not make it for Man Utd but Van Persie could play against Sunderland, Giggs reveals #CarryGobySeanKellz #FutureGroupNG via @imentertain9jar

WAYNE ROONEY is a doubt for Manchester United's home clash with Sunderland tomorrow after picking up a stomach bug and a groin injury.

But Robin van Persie has trained well and is in with a chance of making his comeback from the knee injury that has kept him out for the last six weeks.

United interim boss Ryan Giggs said: "Wayne has got a bug – a few of the lads have - but he has also got a tight groin. With the bug you have to be careful with that because the immune system is down a bit but Wayne being Wayne he wants to be involved and wants to play. We will have to monitor it over the next 24 hours.

"Robin has been back training, he has looked good. Whether it is too soon, we will just see today but he has looked really good this week."

Giggs says no decision has yet to be taken over his own future with Holland coach Louis van Gaal expected to be confirmed as United boss next week and tipped to invite United's longest-serving player to join his coaching staff.

"Nothing has changed," he said. "It is just to the end of the season and we will chat when that is over but my main concentration is on Sunderland tomorrow and then the remaining two games.

"I have a lot to think about, whether to carry on playing, and my concentration is just on now. At the end of the season, we will see what happens.

"The way I am thinking at the moment is I am enjoying it, concentrating on the remaining games, and then like I have just said, we will see what happens at the end of the season. I have got to decide if I want to play or not so there is no point thinking if I want to be an assistant or if I want to be a manager somewhere else. There are so many things to think about.

"My concentration isn't on next season, it is on this season."

Giggs needs a goal in one of the last three games to maintain his remarkable record of scoring in every Premier League season but admitted he may not pick himself because of the form of the other players.

He added: "It would be nice [to score] but I am not too bothered about that. Priorities have changed a little bit.

"I am still in the frame for playing the remaining games or being involved in them. It is just a case of keeping myself fit and the circumstances. Hopefully we win every game and I might not get back in."

Asked if he would wear a suit again tomorrow – as he did for the 4-0 win over against Norwich last Saturday - or switch to a tracksuit he said: "As footballers, we are pretty superstitious bunch so I'll have my suit on."

When Giggs has not been on the training pitch with the players this week, he has been in the office sorting out United's pre-season plans and admits they have a huge headache if they qualify for the Europa League because a third qualifying round tie could clash with their money-spinning American tour.
