With Andros Townsend ruled out yesterday after suffering an ankle injury, Oxlade-Chamberlain looked a near certainty to be included in England's squad for Brazil.
But with just 11 days until Roy Hodgson names his squad, Wenger has cast doubt on whether Oxlade-Chamberlain will be ready in time.
The Frenchman told Arsenal's official website: "Alex is in treatment at the moment and not in training. It is very difficult to give you a timescale on him at the moment."
It is very difficult to give you a timescale on him at the moment.
However, Oxlade-Chamberlain has taken to Instagram to prove that dreams do come true after posting a picture of himself playing against Arsenal as an 11-year-old.
He said: "It's mad, I remember being in the dressing rooms where Thierry Henry sat feeling like I was a premiership player! I remember the whole experience so clearly, including the 4-1 defeat, but I set up our goal so was buzzing! Just shows.... Dreams can come true!"
Meanwhile, Hodgson said on Tuesday: "From my conversation with Arsene, I don't think there is too much to worry about with Oxlade-Chamberlain."
Hodgson also expects Jack Wilshere to be fit for Brazil, although the midfielder will not feature for Arsenal against West Brom this weekend.
