Both midfielders played an integral role in sweeping Hull aside 3-0 on Easter Sunday in a dress rehearsal for the FA Cup final on May 17.
While Ozil, recently returned after five weeks out, delivered a telling performance at the KC stadium he was actually out-shone by Ramsey, who after three months on the sidelines with a thigh injury showed just how much he was missed with a stunning display.
When asked if Arsenal would be gunning for the Premier League crown had both remained injury free, Mertesacker said: "It's hard to say. I think we have the potential in the squad to be a very promising side in terms of title races, but if you can't keep all your leading players fit all the time it makes it a lot more difficult. That's just a fact.
You could see against Hull that those type of players can make a difference
"You could see against Hull that those type of players can make a difference. We have got so much more ability to cope with difficult situations and get over them with those players who have returned.
"I'm delighted they are back now. It's absolutely vital to have them back because we have suffered a lot in the second half of the season. Crucial injuries at the wrong time took away our ability to get a lift in games, so it is fantastic to have them back. Now you can see how important they are for us."
Arsenal face free-falling Newcastle at home on Monday evening, before trips to West Brom and Norwich end their campaign with Everton breathing down their necks in the race for the fourth Champions League place.
