ARSENAL'S bid to land Bayern Munich star Mario Mandzukic has been given a shot in the arm - as Pep Guardiola eyes a move for Newcastle loanee Loic Remy.

Mandzukic was hauled off after just 45 minutes last night by Guardiola as the Bayern boss tried to address his side's 3-0 half-time deficit to Real Madrid.

However, as Mandzukic watched on the Champions League holders went down 5-0 on aggregate and were knocked out of the competition at Real's behest.

And with the Croatian striker given a vote of no confidence by Guardiola at the crucial moment, Arsenal's chances of snaring him this summer appeared to increase.

According to reports, Bayern want to bring in Newcastle's loan star Loic Remy as incoming signing Robert Lewandowski's understudy, paving the way for Mandzukic's departure.

Express Sport understands Arsenal have turned their attention to Mandzukic after seemingly failing to entice Chelsea-bound Diego Costa.

If Bayern pursue Everton, Tottenham and Arsenal target Remy, the Gunners would be in pole position to sign Mandzukic.
