PEP GUARDIOLA has poured cold water on speculation linking him with the Manchester United job - insisting he wants to stay at Bayern Munich for the 'long term'.

Reports had claimed that United would make discreet enquiries to see whether Guardiola could be tempted to Old Trafford following David Moyes' sacking.

Express Sport understands Dutch coach Louis van Gaal is the favourite for the post, with Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp appearing to rule himself out of the running.

And now Guardiola has followed suit, speaking out to deny rumours he could take over from interim manager Ryan Giggs.

"I want to stay at Bayern in the long term," Guardiola said.

"Bayern are my team, and I believe we can do even better."

Guardiola's Bayern beat United in the Champions League quarter-finals this season, 4-2 on aggregate.

Guardiola was linked with the job before Moyes was appointed as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor last summer.
