The Nou Camp crowd BOOED the midfielder when he was introduced in the 70th minute during Barca's 2-1 in over Athletico Bilbao.
Pedro and Lionel Messi scored to turn around a 1-0 deficit for the hosts, with both goals coming after Fabregas' substitution.
At the weekend a poll by Spanish sports paper Marca declared that 50 per cent of Barca fans wanted Fabregas to be sold.
And with Manchester United long-term suitors of the former Arsenal captain - with the Gunners reportedly having a buy-back option - the 26-year-old could well be back in the Premier League this summer.
But Barca boss Gerardo Martino offered a staunch defence of Fabregas after the match, with victory keeping his side in the hunt for the La Liga title.
"I've no opinion of the whistles at Cesc," he said.
"He has great character and always wants to play, always wants the ball and isn't afraid to make mistakes. He is brave."
