OLE GUNNAR SOLKSJAER'S job will not be under threat if Cardiff lose their Premier League status.
The Bluebirds chances of avoiding the drop suffered a heavy blow as they slumped to a 4-0 defeat at Sunderland on Sunday.
Solskjaer's side are now bottom of the table and two points from safety ahead of their remaining games against Newcastle and Chelsea.
The Norwegian has taken just 12 points from 16 games at the helm; predecessor Malky Mackay picked up 17 from the 18 games prior to his sacking.
Questions have been raised over Solskjaer's January signings and his constant tinkering with his starting line-up.
But Cardiff chiefs believe it would be unfair for him to take the blame for a nightmare campaign and he has the backing of owner Vincent Tan.
He deserves the chance to develop his long-term plans
A club source said: "There is no question the club want Ole to continue as manager next season, whatever the outcome of this relegation battle.
"He has had little time to make his mark having been brought in with the club in a mess. He deserves the chance to develop his long-term plans."
Defender Juan Cala, meanwhile, has been charged with improper conduct by the FA. The Spaniard was sent off just before half-time in Sunday's 4-0 defeat at Sunderland after conceding a penalty for pulling back Connor Wickham.
But the charge relates to an incident after the end of the game and it is understood the 24-year-old is alleged to have attempted to confront match officials over his red card.
