STUART PHILLIPS reveals his incredible expert hair advice on the amazing Lady Gaga.

This is probably the only celebrity in the world who changes her hair about twice a day, seven days a week – and is not on a film set.
I will say this, you will either love or hate Lady Gaga's fashion. I'm going to be difficult and say I'm somewhere in the middle, this is because even when her styles are weirdly outrageous and would look terrible on 99% of the population, somehow she manages to hit the 1%. But, not all the time!
I thought I would start with a favourite of mine. If you look at the photo above taken in March 2014 at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, this hairstyle is actually quite beautiful. It also compliments her face shape. Great job considering hair wefts or a wig has been used?
What face shape does Lady Gaga actually have underneath her theatrics? Oval

As far as I'm aware there have been one or two recent sightings showing her natural hair.  You can see this from the photo above snapped in November 2013, where Lady Gaga Presents Art Rave - Press Conference. She almost looks unrecognisable with her natural hair!
Does it suit her face shape, though? This is just after her performance where she's taken off her wig. For this reason it's probably unfair to criticise, but I'm going to anyway.
To your surprise, I will say it suits. I could imagine if she had time to blow-dry or at least place some products in her hair, it would be a short wavy, messy bob which would suit her shape face. Although as she has quite a low hairline at the front I would prefer to see some hair brought forward onto her forehead.
She does suit that chocolate brown hair, I also like her blonde as it suits her skin tone as much as the brown, although for me the blonde would need to be coupled with a style that's either trendy or beautiful, not keen on her pantomime blonde wigs.

Let's take a look through time at some of her past hairstyles on stage and off!

The photo above taken at Lollapalooza Day 2 on the 4th of August 2007. From a technical point of view, it doesn't suit as her face is oval and small, therefore this style takes over her face quite a bit making it look far too tiny. The colour looks good as it suits her skin tone.

I like the style above which was snapped at the 20th Annual Much Music Video Awards in June 2009. It's trendy and works okay with her face shape. As she has a pointy jaw it's important that she has some hair around her neck line, (which she does) this is because you need to fill out the lower part of her face taking your eyes away from her pointy jaw-line.

Lady Gaga used two wigs on the same night at the 20th Annual Much Music Video Awards.
The second wig, as you can see from the photo above, does not work as well as the first. This is because of two reasons. Firstly you can see that the sides of the hair have been cut with too much graduation which is making the sides angle in towards her jaw. This is not a good thing because it makes her jaw-line appear even more pointy than ever. Secondly the bob wig has been cut with an A-line shape, this means the back is shorter going longer towards the front. Whenever you use a diagonal line (shorter at the back and longer at the front) it gives the hair a weaker line and will make the jaw appear more pointy.
If you have naturally thick hair with a square jaw-line or even a round lower face shape then an A-line bob would work brilliantly. PLEASE REMEMBER: if your hair is fine an A-line bob with the longer piece of hair at the front will make your hair appear more fine than ever.

The photo above shows Lady Gaga at The Launch Of V61 Hosted By V Magazine in Nov 2009 – this is a hair extravaganza. The work that must have gone into this is extraordinary! Well done to this hairdresser.

Seven months later in 2010 at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards Lady Gaga's wig collection just got a whole lot better. The soft sexy style, the gorgeous wave at the front, even down to the tones of yellow looks great miss Gaga! I also love her make-up, very pretty!

Photoghraphed above in 2010 Lady Gaga in Las Vegas was Named Creative Director for a specialty line of Polaroid imaging products. Although this style is bonkers it shows how much talent her hairdresser has in avant-garde hairdressing. I think it looks great on her!

The crazy, piled-up blonde hair snapped at the Brit Awards in February 2010 is actually quite good. I love the hair working into the mask and the lace coming up from the mask into the hair. This is very inventive and well designed.

The above photo was taken in June 2011 at the MTV Video Music Aid Press Conference in Japan. I quite like the colour wig but the fringe could have been a lot better. It's cut very unevenly which isn't very flattering. Fringes are the first thing you see and need to be cut perfectly like the rest of the haircut, if it isn't then it's going to stand out like it does in this photo.

The photo above was taken in November 2011 at the Lady Gaga X Terry Richardson Book Launch. The thing about Lady Gaga's hair pieces is that they never actually match. If you look at the hair piece balanced at the top it's a completely different colour to the rest. Maybe the point is it's not meant to match, I've never worked that one out. I suppose you let her off because it's her, if anyone else wore their hair in a similar way I'm sure people would start pointing fingers.

The photo snapped above, taken in December 2011, was Lady Gaga arriving at Narita International Airport. There are so many mixed views on Lady Gaga's bow style hairdos. My opinion is, from the colour to the style and most importantly the shape on this particular bow style, I think it looks hideous. (Sorry, Gaga fans). There are many unusual Gaga styles that I like but this is not one of them.

Above in April 2012 Lady Gaga poses for a photographer in Hong Kong. I like the way that the blonde changes into the purple colour part of her dress. Overall, it's an attractive look for her.

Lady Gaga looks great on the photo above taken in 2013 at the American Music Awards. Her make-up looks very pretty, her dress is gorgeous BUT her hair isn't very suitable. You will ask yourself what is this hairdresser talking about, I shall explain. Lady Gaga has a fairly long slim face, this hairstyle as pretty as the hair is makes her face appear far too long, which in turn gives the illusion of the hair looking a little unnatural.

Look at this fabulous Mona Lisa lookalike above at the Lady Gaga Sighting in London on the 4th of December 2013. I LOVE IT.

The understated photo above (sarcasm) was snapped in April 2014 at Lady Gaga's Official Roseland After Party. It's hard to criticise a look that's so bonkers, although I have to say I hate the wig, colour and flowers BUT it's on Lady Gaga so I kind of like it, hope I'm making sense. These powerful looks wouldn't particularly suit anyone, so there's no point being technical on this style.
I hope you enjoyed reading and looking at some of my favourite Lady Gaga photos. Whatever you think of her she is certainly an inspiration and will be a hair and fashion icon for many years to come.
