Pochettino could be named Spurs boss within the next 48 hours with Daniel Levy now thought to be in advanced talks with the 42-year-old about taking the reigns at White Hart Lane.
It was reported earlier today that Levy had yet to make a final decision between Pochettino and Ajax boss Frank De Boer.
But it now seems almost certain that Pochettino will be the man to replace Tim Sherwood with the former Espanyol boss now odds-on with Ladbrokes.
That leaves a vacancy at St Mary's that will attract interest from around Britain and across Europe.
Following Pochettino's stunning success this season - and with the Saints well-earned reputation for producing some of the brightest British talent - chairman Ralph Krueger is sure not to be short of applications for the position.
Former Brighton boss Gus Poyet could take over at Southampton
Former Brighton man Poyet is the early favourites with bookmakers to replace Pochettino at 5/1 with Ladbrokes.
Neil Lennon is also firmly in the frame at 6/1 having announced his departure from Celtic last week.
Dan Petrescu - who spent a season with Southampton near the end of his career - has slightly longer odds at 7/1 having recently parted ways with Russian club Dynamo Moscow.
The speculation is sure to heat up in due course with Southampton under enormous pressure to pick the right man to carry on Pochettino's good work and the likes of Malky Mackay, Tim Sherwood, Roberto Di Matteo, Michael Laudrup and even David Moyes all also considered possible successors according to the bookies.
