ANDRE SCHURRLE saw his devastated Chelsea team-mates sprawled out on the Estadio Mineirao turf and didn't know what to do.

The Germany midfielder had already dug the knife into broken Brazilian hearts with a brilliant brace to complete the mother of all thrashings.

It was hard to keep the smile off Schurrle's face - and no wonder. He is living the dream, part of a superbly efficient and ruthless German machine heading to Sunday's World Cup final.
But his closeness with Stamford Bridge friends David Luiz, Ramires, Oscar and Willian gave one of the most mesmeric, unforgettable nights in football history a bittersweet taste.
"I don't think you can joke about it," said Schurrle, who has now scored three goals in the tournament and is pushing hard for a start in the Maracana.
"It's hard for them for sure. They played a fantastic tournament with the emotions. They gave everything. They gave their heart.
"You could see it in every game. I just said to them to keep their heads up and I will see them in pre-season."
At just 23 years old, Schurrle is struggling to take everything in. If reaching the World Cup final wasn't enough to muddle his brain, the ovation from the stunned Brazil fans when he lashed home his second and Germany's seventh was even harder to comprehend.

"It's crazy. At the age of 23, to be looking forward to a World Cup final, it's fantastic," he added.
"You can't dream of something like this. Well, of course you can dream that something happens like this, but you can't expect that it would happen. It's unreal.
"We were looking at each other on the bench and we couldn't believe. In the first 30 minutes, when it's 5-0, it's unbelievable.
"We can celebrate and everything. But the team is so experienced. We have players like Philipp Lahm and Bastian Schweinsteiger who have won everything, so they will keep us down to earth and we will keep working and I'm sure we can be at our best in the final.
"I heard the crowd applauding my goal when I was on the field and the guys were talking about it afterwards. It's an incredible feeling. It's something I'll remember for the rest of my life."
To have a quality performer like Schurrle come off the bench tells you everything you need to know about the depth of quality at manager Joachim Low's disposal.
The Chelsea midfielder has been used as an impact sub but he admitted: "Of course I'm desperate to start, but the manager talks a lot with me and says I'm important for him because he needs someone who can change the game and gives everything when he come on.
"This is my role for this World Cup so I will give everything. We're in a World Cup final, I've scored three goals, so I'm happy."
