Working and playing on our trains could be about to get easier.
Over the next four years many parts of the UK's rail network will be treated to new high-speed internet access.
Some train services already offer wi-fi connections but these can be painfully slow and hugely expensive for users. But with the upgraded connections travellers will be able to surf the internet and stream movies and music with relative ease.
Speeds are expected to be 10 times faster than currently available and is set to be free of charge to use.
Services between London, Bedford, Brighton, Manchester, Kent, Portsmouth, Leeds and Sheffield are all likely to be first to get the new speeds.
A network of track side antennas will bring the speedy data to passengers at a cost of around £90million.
The BBC is reporting that the improvements will be part funded by penalties imposed on Network Rail after they failed to hit punctuality targets. It's understood the company could face a potential £70million fines.
However, some critics are saying the money would be better spent on track and station improvements.
But with many commuters now spending time working on our trains the investment could be vital to Britain's economy.
