Ava-Jayne Corless died aged 11 months after being attacked by a pitbull terrier-type animal earlier this year.
Lee Wright, 27, who was the boyfriend of Ava-Jayne's mother Chloe King, 21, appeared before magistrates in Blackburn, Lancashire, this morning.
He was also charged with possession with intent to supply cannabis.
As he arrived at court with a friend, he pulled his hood over his face and gave V-signs to waiting photographers.

He did not enter any pleas and the case was adjourned to a further hearing at Preston Crown Court.
Ava-Jayne, who would have celebrated her first birthday just days after the attack in February, died in hospital after being mauled in Wright's home in Blackburn.
Following Ava-Jayne's death, Ms King issued a tribute in which she said: "As her mother, I just want the world to know how much I love her, miss her and truly cherished every moment with my little girl.
"I carried her for nine months, almost lost my life bringing her into the world and would do anything to have her back.
"I love you Twinkle, you are my world."
