DAVID CAMERON was “completely unapologetic” last night about standing up for Britain in the diplomatic row over leadership of the EU.

As the Prime Minister arrived at a crunch summit in Belgium, he refused to budge on his pledge to force an unprecedented vote over the nomination of veteran Eurocrat Jean-Claude Juncker to the post of President of the European Commission.
And Mr Cameron issued a stark warning to his fellow EU leaders that pressing ahead with the appointment would have “consequences” for Britain’s future in Europe. He said: “Everything has consequences in life.”
As the bitter feud deepened, it emerged that EU leaders are set to back Luxembourg’s former prime minister despite concerns about his alcohol consumption.
Mr Cameron is expected to be overwhelmingly defeated and possibly isolated in a vote over the appointment today. Only Hungary’s premier Viktor Orban is a possible ally.
Mr Cameron said in Ypres before First World War commemorations: “I am completely unapologetic about standing up for an important principle in Europe.”
He insisted “elected governments” should choose top EU officials and said leaders were “contemplating choosing someone who I think will struggle to be a voice of reform and change in Europe”.
