A NEW £1.30 a-day pill that helps fight diabetes was yesterday given the final go-ahead for use by the NHS.

Patients can now ask to be prescribed the Canagliflozin tablet which slashes blood sugar levels.
It helps to lower the risk of diabetes sufferers developing life-threatening complications and could save the NHS millions of pounds.
The pill is for Type 2 diabetes adults who have not been able to control their condition with exercise and diet
The pill, known by the trade name Invokana, is for Type 2 diabetes adults who have not been able to control their condition with exercise and diet alone or with other treatments.
More than 20,000 people die from complications relating to Type 2 Diabetes in England and Wales each year.
