ATLETICO MADRID'S Diego Costa has reportedly passed his medical and is on the verge of officially becoming a Chelsea player.

The free-scoring striker is set to become Jose Mourinho's first summer puchase and will put pen-to-paper on a lengthy contract for a fee of around £32million.
Express Sport revealed earlier today that Costa was set to undergo a medical at Stamford Bridge, and sources suggest that he has moved a step closer to signing for the Special One after suffering no setbacks.

The 25-year-old, who was born in Brazil but will be representing Spain at this month's World Cup, suffered a hamstring scare when he limped off in the Champions league final against Real Madrid, but has recovered in time to spearhead his country's attack.

It is also good news for Blues fans, who are desperate to see a world-class hitman latching onto passes and crosses from the likes of Eden Hazard and Willian.

Costa will compete with Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Romelu Lukaku for a place up-front, with out-of-contract Samuel Eto'o seemingly set for a switch to rivals Arsenal.

There are question marks over Chelsea's other strikers too, and Costa could soon be joined in west London by unsettled Bayern Munich poacher Mario Mandzukic.
