Australia 2 - Netherlands 3: Cahill's wonderstrike can't stop Dutch march towards last 16 #TheEliteParty #Entertain9jar via @myentertain9jar

A WONDERGOAL from former Everton star Tim Cahill wasn't enough to stop the Netherlands march towards the last 16 of the World Cup this evening.

Cahill's magnificent volley came just a minute after Arjen Robben had given the Netherlands the lead on 19 minutes.

The superb strike seemed to stun Louis Van Gaal's side - so impressive against Spain in their opening game - and the Australians even took the lead through a Mile Jedinak penalty on 53 minutes.

Four minutes later though and the Dutch were on level terms, with Robin van Persie slamming home.

Australia had another fantastic chance to take the lead by Mathew Leckie couldn't convert from close range.

And in the 67th minute Mat Ryan let Memphis Depay's tame effort from 30 yards slip past him to give the Netherlands a somewhat undeserved lead.

The Dutch will now take on Chile without van Persie - who is suspended after picking up a yellow card - while Australia will look to replicate their plucky effort against Spain on Monday evening.
