HAIRY Bikers star Si King has opened up for the first time about receiving treatment for a potentially fatal brain aneurysm and how the illness has forced him to slow
Hairy Biker star Simon King has opened up about how he survived a brain aneurysm[WENN]The father-of-three is currently recovering at home with his family following life-saving treatment and is now concentrating on his health, but the experience has certainly had a huge impact on his life.
Describing the aneurysm as "a bit of a shemozzle with my head", Si admitted that it really was touch-and-go when he fell ill three months ago."I just started getting a severe headache," he told the Daily Mirror in a recent interview. "Over a four-day period it got worse and worse and worse. The father-of-three is currently recovering at home with his wife and three sons [BBC] "I am fine. There have been no lasting effects - none that you'd notice other than I am slightly madder than I was before. No deficit, as they say

"I thought, 'Oh my god, I am in trouble here'. So I went and had a procedure."Now I go for check ups. It is a continual treatment and I will need some more. It was a life-or-death thing. It was critical when I went into hospital but now it's not. It's good they have fixed it."He added. "I am fine. There have been no lasting effects - none that you'd notice other than I am slightly madder than I was before. No deficit, as they say."Of course, Si is making the most of resting up at home in Newcastle with his wife Jane and their sons Alex, James and Dylan."I walk at least two miles a day and cycle when I can because with brain injuries it can be difficult. Your stamina levels drop for one reason or another," he explained."I'm not back working yet. I want to keep myself right. The last thing I want to do is fall over on a shoot. I want to make sure I am 100% fit. And I'm getting there."Si lost more than three stone with Hairy Bikers co-star Dave Myers [BBC]Before the illness, Si believes that he was in good health - especially after shedding more than three stone on a diet with fellow Hairy Biker Dave Myers. He went from more than 19 stone to 15 and a half, but due to being ill some of the weight has crept back on."I have put about a stone back on due to not being particularly well," he said. "I am starting to lose it now - it's a lot easier trying to lose seven kilos than 23 kilos, which is what originally happened."As well as their TV show, Si and Dave also released a massive-selling cookbook.Si is very much looking forward to getting back on his bike with Dave [BBC]They have also extended Hairy Dieters into an online community with recipes, exercise plans and calorie counters at hairybikersdietclub.com."We got so much feedback from the books and that's how it started," said Si. "Whether it is a fitness regime or if you want to lose weight, it's a bespoke service and people can choose what they want to do. The feedback is brilliant."Although Si's primary concern is getting his health back to it's best, he's also looking forward to getting back on his bike with Dave."He's great - we are like two brothers" he added. "He just wants me to get better so we can get back on the road."
