AN acclaimed headteacher who received national recognition for her school results was a “predator” who called herself “Mommy” as she groomed a boy for sex, a court heard.

Anne Lakey, 54, instigated a sexual relationship with a teenager behind the back of her then husband, a jury was told.
Durham Crown Court heard that in the late 1980s Lakey invited the boy to her home, exposed her breasts, allowed him to watch her in the bath and seduced him into sexual acts. On one occasion, Lakey walked into a room wearing only a towel before dropping the towel and asking him: “What are you going to do then?”
The court heard she had sex with the boy, still in his school uniform, and continued a regular sexual relationship with him.
He was forced to hide in a cupboard once when her husband came back unexpectedly, the jury heard. Lakey was in her late twenties and a teacher at the time of the alleged offences, between April 1988 and May 1989. The boy was 13 or 14 – but he was not one of her pupils.
Caroline Goodwin, prosecuting, said boys aged between 13 and 16 often gathered at Lakey’s home – but she formed a particular attachment with the victim.
Ms Goodwin added: “He was a young impressionable teenager being groomed by a woman in a position of responsibility who was a sexual predator. She was a manipulator. It was sexual abuse of a vulnerable boy.
She called herself his “Mommy”, it is alleged, and became the “ultimate corrupting influence” in his life
"Once you have control of someone’s mind, control of their body is so much easier. She must have known her activities were wrong.”
The court was told the boy would play truant to visit Lakey’s home in Stanley, Co Durham.
She called herself his “Mommy”, it is alleged, and became the “ultimate corrupting influence” in his life.
The boy came forward in 2012 after Lakey said in a blog that she believed in giving young people “the best start in life”. She was chief executive of the Durham Federation, which oversaw the biggest improvement in GCSE results in the country last year.
This federation includes Fyndoune Community College in Sacriston, Co Durham, which in 2013 was the country’s most improved secondary school.
Lakey denies four charges of indecency with a child and five charges of indecent assault on the same boy.
The trial continues.
