A MEXICAN football fan is feared to have died after jumping into shark-infested waters while celebrating his team's World Cup success.
Jorge Amores was celebrating a Mexico game when he vanished [CEN]Jorge Alberto Lopez Amoe was drinking aboard a cruise liner when he jumped into the sea off the coast of Brazil.
Shocked onlookers said he may have been trying to impress a woman he was talking to.Passengers alerted the ship's crew, and the MSC Divina was turned around to go back and search for the 28 year-old.However, the manoeuvre took over an hour and by the time the ship had returned crew could not find Mr Amoe, who was one of 3,000 passengers on the cruise ship.The Brazilian navy has joined the search, but experts say that Mr Amoe is unlikely to be found alive.The waters where he disappeared are notorious for their strong currents and dangerous sharks.The Brazilian navy have joined the search for Mr Amores [CEN]Fellow passenger Pepe Guardilo said: "I saw him chatting up a pretty female journalist aboard the ship. He was animated, a result of too much booze and the team doing so well so far in the tournament."I heard him say to her: 'I am so happy that I can fly! Look at me!' And with that he stuck his arms out and dived overboard."The ship was moving at a fair clip and he vanished into the foam created in the ship's wake."By the time the ship had stopped and turned around, he was nowhere to be seen." Mexico are currently second in their group after drawing with Brazil last Tuesday.A draw against Croatia tonight will be enough to see them progress to the knockout stages.
